The second day of our Adventure Weekend began with some birthday celebrations at breakfast as Jacob turned 15. After a few rounds of Happy Birthday we excitedly boarded the birthday bus and headed towards Wli falls.
Only a short journey from our hotel, we stopped at entrance point to the forest park which would lead us to Wli Waterfalls. We started to make our way through the forest and as we crossed the 9 bridges leading to the waterfall we saw people bathing and washing clothes in the river. We also saw lots of interesting insects and plants along the way including cacao, the raw ingredient used to make chocolate.
After a 30 minute walk through the forest we were treated to our first glimpse of Wli falls. With water cascading over an 80m drop it was very impressive and the cooling spray it gave off was welcomed by everyone after the humidity of the morning.
While Miss Bluett did not let the group swim at the waterfall, the group did enjoy having a paddle and taking in the view. When the last of the photos and videos were taken and the pupils had thoroughly cooled off in the spray, we headed back through the forest. On this walk we saw many more bugs and insects including a very impressive spider which some liked the look of more than others..!
After a spot of souvenir shopping and haggling at the stalls set up outside the entry point we made our way back to the hotel for lunch. The birthday celebrations continued with some ice-cream and more singing before we started to prepare for the journey back to the hostel in Woe. However, just before we were due to leave, we heard the sound of thunder and suddenly the heavens opened. Within minutes rivers had formed where paths and grass were just before and a couple of members of the group enjoyed another opportunity to cool off in this downpour.
With everyone drying out on the bus, let’s just say it was a little steamy as we headed back towards Woe ready for our second week on project!
